Who you are
The Beverage Director is responsible for developing and presenting a consistent, creative, and inspiring beverage program and managing all areas of profit, stock, and waste control related to beverage service. The Beverage Director must have a well-developed palate, an intuition for superior hospitality, and be an accountable self-starter who is able to work independently or with a team.
What you’ll do
- Work with the leadership team to develop and implement business strategies for the restaurant that are aligned with its core values and strategies
- Support the bar team during service, be available to present tableside preparations, and answer guest questions
- Increase beverage sales, memberships, and customer data through engagement and service
- Work with the Executive Chef and Front-of-house Manager to create a training program, ensuring consistent delivery of products and professional services within the standards of budget, policies, procedures, and quality
- Lead public and private tasting events and work closely with the Front-of-house Manager to develop events programming
- Develop Beverage Sourcing Guidelines
- Order and receive products and verify the quality and accuracy of all deliveries and invoices to ensure correct billing by vendors
- Conduct regular inventory of wine, liquor, and other supplies
- Ensure the consistent serving of quality beverages
- Set an example of a positive, collaborative work environment, ensuring clear communication at all times
- Foster learning environments that are safe, welcoming, inclusive, and equally supportive of all identities and learning styles
- Understand employee positions well enough to perform duties in employees' absence or determine appropriate replacements to fill gaps
- Ensure all bar equipment is properly maintained and in working order
- Complete administrative requirements accurately and on time
- Interact with guests to obtain feedback on beverage quality, presentation, and service levels.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience with full-service bartending
- In-depth knowledge of craft cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits
- Experience in tea is not required for this position but is certainly encouraged. You will be able to study and develop tea experience with guidance from Passenger’s Director of Tea.
- Must be thorough, conscientious, well organized, and have excellent follow-through on delegated tasks
- Possess strong interpersonal, written, verbal communication, and public speaking skills
- Ability to write routine reports, and to speak effectively to management, guests, and employees
- Ability to stand, walk, and use stairs for extended periods
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Proficiency with Google Drive, email, and operations-related software
